We write our own biography by the way we live our lives and navigate our transitions. Creating a narrative of our experiences provides a basis from which to explore how traumatic events negatively live on in our lives. In therapeutic dialogue, we will work together on shifting the narrative and recognizing your innate knowledge and skills, empowering you to heal your Self.
My Approach
Grief and Loss
Grief is a normal response to loss and a universal experience. Death of a loved one is one of the most common ways we experience loss. Other significant life situations, such as change of job, relocation, or divorce, can also leave us feeling bereft. We will patiently work through the various stages of the bereavement process and transform grief into growth.
Divorce
Divorce is an extremely stressful transition, likely producing a full range of painful emotions. It is difficult at times to make sense of moving from partner to individual. We will work with the opportunities inherent in developing aspects of one’s self that will serve future relationships. When children are involved, parents need support developing co-parenting skills. Children may act out or shut down completely when trying to emotionally process this significant life transition. Often, it is difficult for them to express this to a parent or loved one. Extra support at this critical juncture can mitigate unhealthy emotional or behavioral responses to the unexpected challenges of divorcing parents.
Trauma Recovery
Our interpretations and definitions of trauma are particular to our personal experience. No one is immune to the effects of trauma. Trauma disrupts the ability of the nervous system to self-regulate and our physical body holds memory. This work is highly individualized. Together, we will approach how to best recover from past occurrences and move forward.
Domestic Violence
We will explore cycles in the relationship and focus on safety planning. Your decisions will be supported.
Spirituality
Faith can play a significant role in healing. For those who wish to include spirituality as part of healing, I am familiar with many faith traditions and can incorporate these into your therapy.
